The Five Cravings of the Soul with Cory Rosenke

The Five Cravings of the Soul with Cory Rosenke
We all want the kind of peace that transcends life's ups and downs. To do this, we must listen to the five cravings of our soul: 1. Security 2. Identity 3. Independence 4. Significance and 5. at Innocence.  In this episode, Matt interviews Cory Rosenke about these five fundamental cravings. Discover how each craving influences the way we behave. Take a look within and join this soul-searching conversation that will leave your mind and mood feeling fully nourished. Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:  These are non-biological soul cravings, not just psychological needs.  God can fully satisfy these cravings in a way the physical world cannot. Following God's guidance brings security, significance, and fulfillment beyond what money/status can provide. [02:08] The Craving for Security Our need to feel safe goes beyond just having locks and walls. It goes deeper than just a desire for physical protection. Cory describes it as having two parts - physical security vs. relational security (knowing that our hearts are safe with the people we're close to). Connecting with our creator is the way to experience a deep and lasting sense of security. [13:40] Craving for Identity Identity encompasses the questions "Who am I?", "Why am I?", "What is my purpose?", and "Do I have value?" This craving is strongly rooted in psychology but is actually non-biological in nature. People often try to find identity through worldly means like gangs or political affiliations. However, allowing external things to become our sole identity can be problematic since it will fiercely defend that identity even when it's not serving us. True identity must go deeper than surface-level affiliations and circumstances. [17:38] Craving for Independence This includes both a craving for freedom as well as a desire for distinct individuality. While independence is an important craving, it is never fully satisfied through worldly or biological means alone. [20:54] Craving for Significance This craving seeks not just to feel different through independence, but to feel above or special. When managed properly, this craving can create great works of art and beauty. But when pursued in unhealthy ways, it can lead to conflict and a desire to feel significant by pushing others down.  [29:36] Craving for Innocence Innocence is underlying every argument or conflict, as each person wants to feel innocent of wrongdoing. This craving is meant to inspire right living, but is often misused to claim righteousness over others through "cancel culture". Innocence is best managed through connection to God, who declares our innocence through love rather than condemnation. Notable quotes: [09:55] I know God loves me, cares for me, and is working for my best.  [10:00] [11:12] If you want to satisfy a non-biological craving, you're gonna have to look towards the non-biological.
